It's advisable to pack comfortable, lightweight clothing and breathable shoes. It's also recommended to bring a hat or other head covering to protect yourself from the sun. Keep in mind that Morocco is a Muslim country, and while everyone dresses as they please, it's always wise to dress modestly and respect local customs, especially if you plan to visit religious sites or rural areas where the locals aren't used to seeing women in short or tight clothing. Those traveling to the desert should bring closed, breathable shoes, a scarf to cover their face, sunglasses, and a light jacket or sweater for the cooler evenings.

Sanitary conditions

Morocco is one of the African countries with the lowest health risks. However, medical treatment in the country can be expensive. You can find private doctors and clinics in every city, and most of these clinics have agreements with travel insurance companies. Therefore, purchasing travel insurance can be a very worthwhile option to avoid potential headaches. If you become ill or have an accident in Morocco and require hospitalization, it is advisable to contact the embassy or a consulate.

Health advice

Do not drink soft drinks from street vendors; many of these stalls do not have a water supply to wash and disinfect the cups where the soft drinks are served.

Only drink bottled water (tap water can upset your stomach)

Avoid ice (The source of the water is unknown; it may not be potable or it may be tap water and could make us sick)

Avoid raw vegetables

If you have to drink from a river, well or natural spring, it is best to collect it in a bottle and add a water purification tablet.

Be careful in rocky or arid areas due to scorpion stings and animal bites (This is very rare but it's always good to be safe)

What medications should I bring to Morocco?

It's always a good idea to bring some basic medications in case of any problems during your trip. Pharmacies are easy to find in Morocco, but the high prices and the fact that medications may be marketed differently, which can be confusing since they come from French laboratories, can be a problem.

Do I need any vaccinations to travel to Morocco?

No vaccine is needed for Travel to Morocco Since it is not a high-risk country, but if you wish to travel more safely, the following vaccines are recommended:

Typhoid fevers

Hepatitis A

Hepatitis B

Tetanus-Diphtheria

Travel insurance

For your peace of mind, it is very important to take out insurance. Trip to Morocco. We strongly recommend that all our visitors purchase travel insurance before arriving in Morocco. Travel insurance can protect against lost luggage, missed transportation, medical emergencies (including evacuation costs), trip cancellation, and trip interruption. Families traveling together, in particular, can benefit from joint travel insurance. Due to the high cost of the trip and the increased risk of illness for any member of the group, the trip could be canceled, and without insurance, the money invested could be lost. It's affordable and allows for much greater peace of mind while traveling.

Other dangers to be aware of:

Exercise caution when swimming at the beaches

On the other hand, if you head to the beaches, you should be especially careful on the Atlantic coast, as they often have waves and strong currents. If you decide to go for a swim, do so with caution. During the summer months, there are usually lifeguards on the most popular tourist beaches in the country.

Avoid risks on the roads

If you're going to drive in Morocco, you need to be very careful and always respect the speed limit. There are many police officers on the roads, but the most important thing is that people and animals often cross the road, even on highways, and it's reckless to drive fast. You also need to be very careful on curves, as Moroccans have the bad habit of overtaking on any side of the road.

Some important considerations while driving

The speed limit on the motorway is 120 km/h

The use of seat belts is mandatory for the driver and passengers except on public transport

There are mechanic shops in almost every city

Currency, banks, and tips

The official currency in Morocco is the Dirham (MAD). Although its value fluctuates, to get a rough idea of the exchange rate in euros, you should divide the price in Dirhams by 10. This is just an approximation; for the exact value, I advise you to check the official exchange rate at the time of purchase. In almost all of Morocco, you won't have any problem paying in Euros, although it's always advisable to exchange at least some of your money into the local currency, especially for small payments and purchases. Ideally, you should calculate your expenses and only exchange what you need, as the reverse exchange rate is not as favorable. Before leaving the country, it's advisable to exchange all your money, as it can be complicated to exchange Dirhams for your home currency. You'll find exchange offices at all airports and ports in the country, at the borders of Ceuta and Melilla, and in almost all developed cities in Morocco. It's also possible to withdraw local currency from ATMs at local banks, but keep in mind that you'll likely be charged a fee by both your bank for the foreign transaction (around 51 TP3T) and the Moroccan bank for processing it. Card payments are accepted at most accommodations and restaurants of a certain category, as well as some shops, but these payments may incur a fee. It's also advisable to carry small coins of 1, 2, and even 5 DH for tips, as these are not included in the prices and tipping is customary.

Tourist information for Morocco

If you need up-to-date information about the country, you can contact the Moroccan National Tourism Office (ONMT), which has offices throughout Morocco and abroad. In all cities of tourist interest, you can find an office where you can request information or tourist brochures.

In Spain, the tourist office is located in:

Madrid

C/ Ventura Rodríguez 24, 1 Izquierda, Telephone 91 542 74 31 / 91 541 29 95.

Barcelona

C/ Balmes, 89, pl.3, loc.48. In rural areas, 110V, 115V, and 125V are still available, but these are becoming less common. Accommodation rooms in Morocco (hotels and riads) typically have only one outlet, so if you want to charge more than one device at a time, we recommend packing a power strip or surge protector.

Traveling with children to Morocco

In Morocco, due to its culture, most of the population consists of large families with close contact with children. If you have children and are thinking Travel to Morocco With them, you'll surely be amazed by the lively streets, the oases hidden among the magnificent dunes, the smells and colors of the souks, and the friendliness of the Moroccan people. You'll also be captivated by horse-drawn carriage rides through the cities, camel treks, and the incredible beaches. On the other hand, there are some challenges to consider when traveling with children or babies. Any products like special foods and medications should be brought from home, as they can be difficult to find in Morocco. Don't expect to find baby changing facilities either, as they are practically nonexistent. The medinas can be labyrinthine and chaotic places where your children are likely to become disoriented or lost. Therefore, if you're traveling with children, you should keep them under close supervision or look for hotel or resort accommodations in the modern part of the city, where the narrow alleyways open up into wide avenues, just like in the West. If you want to buy baby products, we recommend visiting large stores such as Above y Marjane, These are large supermarkets like the ones you can find anywhere in the West, and they are a good place to stock up on baby products.

Smoking and drinking alcohol in Morocco

In a law passed in 2008, Morocco banned smoking in all enclosed public spaces and on public transportation, as well as prohibiting the sale of cigarettes to minors under 18. Smoking is permitted on restaurant and cafe terraces and in open areas. Many cafes and other establishments allow smoking inside their premises, so it's always best to ask the waiter if smoking is allowed, except in areas where signs clearly indicate it is prohibited.

Regardless of whether it is allowed or not, smoking near families who are eating is frowned upon; as a matter of courtesy, we should avoid smoking near them and only do so when we are sure we are not bothering anyone.

During Ramadan, Muslims are prohibited from smoking during the day, so it is advisable out of respect and courtesy to be discreet and not smoke in public places.

Alcohol is prohibited in Islam, and its sale in Morocco is limited to licensed establishments. Some restaurants, nightclubs, and hotels with this license may serve alcohol, but at a much higher price than what we are used to.

Internet and Wi-Fi in Morocco

Internet is available in almost every city in Morocco. If you want to have internet on your mobile phone, you can buy a SIM card with a Moroccan number during your stay. For about 30 dh, you can have your Moroccan number and enjoy 20 dh of free top-up. Data rates are also cheap.

What language is spoken in Morocco?

Depending on the region of Morocco, different languages are spoken. The official languages are Arabic and French, the latter being used for all administrative purposes. Colloquially, Darija, a dialect of Arabic, is spoken in Moroccan cities. Darija also varies depending on the region. In northern Morocco, a large part of the population still speaks Spanish due to the influence of the Spanish protectorate. The same is true in the south, but with French, as it was part of the French protectorate. English is spoken in some hotels and tourist towns. Moroccans are very multilingual, and it's surprising to see how they handle so many languages; even young children in the medina can manage to speak phrases and words in multiple languages.

Is it cold or hot in Morocco?

When many people think of Morocco, the image that comes to mind is the desert, palm trees, and heat.
